Jean's intuition is more inwardly concentrated. The important question for her is often not "What else can happen out there?" but "What is happening beneath the surface, and what does this reveal about me, other people, or the future?" Her feeling orientation provides the second major component of the INFJ approximation. Jean's extraordinary abilities do not make her detached from human consequences. Her decisions are repeatedly influenced by empathy, attachment, compassion, and concern for the people around her. However, this should not be confused with simple emotional expressiveness. Jung's description of introverted feeling emphasizes that subjective feeling is often difficult to explain intellectually and may remain largely hidden from the outside. Jean's emotions can operate at precisely this deeper level. Her strongest values are not necessarily expressed through constant outward displays of emotion. Instead, they become internal standards through which she evaluates her actions and relationships. This combination of intuition and feeling is important because Jean is not simply an emotionally sensitive character. Her empathy is frequently connected with an intuitive understanding of other people's inner states. She can perceive psychological suffering and possibilities that are not immediately visible. Her concern for others therefore operates together with her capacity to see beneath surface appearances. Jung's discussion of the principal and auxiliary functions is also relevant here. He explains that a differentiated personality normally has a conscious primary function accompanied by an auxiliary function of a different nature. The auxiliary supports the dominant function without taking over its principle. In the modern four-letter approximation, Jean can therefore be understood as having introverted intuition supported by feeling. Her intuitive perception provides the deeper framework through which she understands reality, while feeling gives that perception a distinctly human and relational direction. This also explains why her morality should not automatically lead to an ISFJ or another sensing type. Jean certainly cares about people and can be protective of those she loves, but her psychological focus is not primarily on preserving familiar routines or reproducing established experience. She is repeatedly confronted with transformation, potential, psychological depth, and questions about identity. Her central conflicts are therefore much more intuitive than traditionally sensory. At the same time, Jean should not be reduced to the stereotype of a mystical visionary. Jung's introverted intuitive type can become detached from ordinary reality when intuition becomes excessively dominant. Jean's development demonstrates the danger of this imbalance, but she also shows a strong need to integrate her inner perceptions with relationships and human values. That balancing influence is one of the strongest reasons to favor an INFJ approximation rather than simply calling her an introverted intuitive type without qualification. Ultimately, INFJ is the most convincing four-letter MBTI approximation for Jean Grey under the framework of Chapter X. Her introverted orientation explains the depth and privacy of her psychological life, introverted intuition accounts for her sensitivity to underlying processes and future possibilities, and feeling explains why those perceptions remain strongly connected to human relationships and personal values. Her character is therefore not best understood simply through the enormous power she possesses. The more important typological pattern is her tendency to look beneath immediate reality, perceive what lies underneath it, and then struggle to reconcile those deeper perceptions with the people and values she cares about. Through Jung's framework, that combination most naturally translates into INFJ.
