He tends to respond to what is immediately real rather than spending long periods constructing abstract explanations of what might happen. Jesse is extremely sensitive to his surroundings. His reactions are often spontaneous, physical, and immediate. He experiences pleasure, fear, anger, excitement, guilt, and affection with considerable intensity, and these experiences frequently become the starting point for his decisions. Even when he makes mistakes, his behavior is rarely the result of an elaborate abstract theory. He is reacting to the reality in front of him and attempting to navigate it as best he can. This is one reason I would not type him as INTP or another thinking-dominant type. The two functions create a personality that can pursue immediate experiences while simultaneously reacting intensely when those experiences violate personal values. His development throughout Breaking Bad makes this distinction especially clear. Jesse becomes increasingly aware of the human consequences of his actions. His experiences do not simply make him more cautious; they force him to confront what he personally cannot tolerate. He becomes increasingly unwilling to participate in actions that violate his conscience, even when doing so puts his own life at risk. This is also why I would choose ESFP rather than ESTP. Jesse certainly has the practical adaptability and situational awareness associated with an extraverted sensing type, but his decisions are repeatedly pulled back toward personal feeling. His strongest conflicts are not about whether something is logically efficient. They are about whether he can live with what he has done. That distinction is crucial. Jung also explains that the dominant function is accompanied by an auxiliary function, which supports the primary function without becoming autonomous. He gives combinations such as practical thinking allied with sensation and other function pairings.
